Hon. John P. Schettino, is an illustrious addition to the board of the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition for Long Island (WIBCC). Elected to the District Court in November 2015, Judge Schettino presided over civil trials from 2016 to 2019. In 2020, he was appointed as Acting Suffolk County Court Judge, a position he held with dedication, conducting settlement conferences in personal injury cases through 2021.
A seasoned professional, Schettino brings with him a vast experience of 27 years in the legal arena. He held the position of in-house attorney at the renowned GEICO Insurance Company from 2009 to 2014, after a fruitful stint in private practice from 2002 to 2009.
His legal journey commenced with Crum and Foster Commercial Insurance Company as a paralegal while simultaneously pursuing law studies at Brooklyn Law School in the evenings from 1982 to 1986. After earning his law degree and admission to the bar in March 1987, he continued to serve Crum and Foster as an in-house attorney until 2002.
Prior to his law career, Schettino worked diligently as a Loss Control Representative for Hartford Insurance Company from 1980 to 1982, where he provided invaluable consultation in Risk Management to a variety of commercial insureds.
Alongside his legal profession, Judge Schettino has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to community service. From 2007 to 2014, he served on the Town of Islip Planning Board, culminating in a term as Chairman from 2012 to 2014.
His contribution to WIBCC, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting those affected by breast cancer, is invaluable. The organization, focused on providing assistance to breast cancer patients and their families, and funding research to find a cure, will greatly benefit from Schettino's legal expertise and commitment to community service.
